October 2021 President’s Message

As we head into fall, Redwood Region continues to host a wide variety of Porsche-related activities, from Concours to Autocross to Rallies, but the one I hope brings out the best participation and interest is our Annual Members Meeting on Sunday October 24 Saturday, October 30, at the Union Hotel restaurant in downtown Occidental. This sit-down lunch meeting gives all members the opportunity to become more involved in supporting club events and dreaming up new ideas for the future. Come and learn about how the Board works, hear from Executive Council candidates, and join a committee or become a Board member yourself! Registration is open. There is an optional tour starting from Vintage Oaks in Novato at 10:30, with a noon meeting at the Union Hotel.

I hope you took advantage of the opportunities for September and early October, with the fun described in pieces by Kurt Fischer (the always excellent Oktoberfest drive to Vacaville) and Lisa Davoren (Concours on a gorgeous day in Petaluma). If you are still hunkered down waiting for COVID to blow over, then consider taking the plunge into “Sim Racing.” Past President Chip Witt explains both the how and the why in two great articles this month. I wasn’t so sure about it before, but now…it looks pretty tantalizing.

Out on the road over the next month, our shared Autocross weekend October 16/17 should be spectacular. Registration is open until late on the 13th. Our sister region SVR may still have slots available for their 3-day Mendocino Tour November 5-7. The weekend before Thanksgiving, Past President Craig Steele will try his hand at organizing our first “gimmick rally” along the Silverado Trail which sounds like a blast. Registration will open soon.

As usual, I invite you to participate in planning events for our 100% volunteer-run future. Our club has openings on the Board that could benefit from your energy and enthusiasm. If you’d like to know more, please reach out to me directly or attend a Board meeting. 

Meetings are open to all members on the last Tuesday of every month at 7 PM at Mary’s Pizza Shack in Novato. Dinner is always on the club – you just pay for your drink (Zoom is also available). November’s meeting this year will be the Event Planning Meeting for 2022, so if you can’t make the Annual Meeting in October, this will be another chance to bring your ideas to the club.
