One One Fun Run “Bay to Bay”
After one New Years Day (2021) lost to COVID, 44 intrepid, awake and alert Redwood members in 28 flavors of Stuttgart’s best came together to restart the One One Fun Run tradition. This year’s drive started at the McInnis Park Golf Course parking lot in Marinwood (yes, because there are restrooms there and it’s a straight shot to Lucas Valley Road) and headed northwest through Nicasio, along our old favorites of Hicks Valley and Chileno Valley Roads. As expected, there was frost on some of the northern downslopes, but everyone did a fine job of tailoring their speed and following distances to keep the trip both fun and safe. This included several brand new members on their first outing with the club!
Special thanks to my co-leader Essy Fariab and our two capable sweeps, Chip Witt and David Bunch. David kept it together despite apparently being cut off by a pack of 15 Ferraris. The nerve!
The views along these backroads of Marin and Sonoma never get old. As we headed out towards our destination of Bodega Bay, the ridiculously green hills sparkled, and everything just looked freshly washed (as it should have after weeks of rain). Cows, sheep, longhorn steer, chickens and even a family of 5 wild boar dotted the hillsides for what was a mostly unencumbered run out through Valley Ford.
We were happy to find plenty of parking at the Tides Wharf & Restaurant, where breakfast service was still going on. Every table has a glorious panorama of Bodega Bay, with harbor seals, cormorants, and a few pelicans providing entertainment, and many members made new friends in this cozy sunlit spot. One easy New Year’s resolution to make is to plan to come along next year. We hope to see you then!
