April 2022 President’s Message

by | Apr 10, 2022

Spring has sprung! This is the best time of year to start exercising your Porsche, before summer brings out too many other cars and cyclists on our favorite Redwood Region back roads. In that vein, it seems there is a lot of pent-up enthusiasm for a drive because our first Midweek Tour in the 10 years that I have been a member was a smashing success on March 16th. Be sure to read VP Rick Duste’s article in this month’s dR about it. I personally had a fantastic time and we had our lunch destination essentially to ourselves at Rancho Nicasio. I am sure that other versions of midweek tours will be on the menu soon!

Rallymaster Jim Robison’s Two Lake Rally closed out March just before the last rain with a gorgeous route and a wide variety of participants; see his article for more information.

April 9th’s tour to lunch at the Union Hotel Restaurant in Occidental happened too late to review in this dR edition, but our next treat is another new event for our club: an enhanced race day operations tour on Saturday April 16th with both Flying Lizard Racing and Porsche Motorsport hosting at Sonoma Raceway (registration is still open until April 12th). Secretary Craig Steele’s second “gimmick rally”, featuring Sonoma wine pairing challenges is on Saturday April 23rd (registration is open through the 17th). His first one was a blast last fall; if you haven’t tried one, come on out!

May will bring us to the performance event of spring: a two-day shared Autocross weekend at Thunderhill May 14th and 15th. Registration links on MSR for each day will be up on our calendar shortly. Autocross remains the best way to safely experience your Porsche’s limits of control and the friendly competition and comradery simply cannot be beat. On Saturday May 21st Jim Robison and Jerry Wachtel have enhanced the Devils Gulch Time-Speed-Distance Rally (first run in 2021). Registration is open.

The Board always appreciates your input, and volunteers are what keep our club alive! Every leadership position will be open to new candidates in just six short months, so we’d love to show you the ropes now! Email us directly or attend our monthly Board meeting on Tuesday April 26th at Mary’s Pizza Shack in Novato at 7 PM. Dinner is always on the club – you just pay for your drink (Zoom will also available if you wish to attend remotely). Please see our calendar link at redwoodpca.org  for details.
