Brisket Round Trip: The 2023 One One Fun Run
Tucked in between significant rainstorms at the turn of the calendar, New Year’s Day was a glorious shot of sunshine in the Redwood Region.
What a perfect day to go for a 74-mile backroads drive with 29 best friends in their Porsches! President Vern Rogers put together a great tour beginning and ending at the famous Hamburger Ranch in Cloverdale, scene of many of our “One One Fun Runs” since they are open on New Year’s Day and serve classic BBQ.
After a chilly Drivers Safety Meeting, two groups of 15 happy cars headed west on Highway 128 towards Boonville. The road was in great shape without any of the expected mudslides or downed trees that had been in the news in other parts of the Bay Area.
The incredible green of new growth grass combined with clear blue skies made for a gorgeous route. Joe Burroughs provided sweep duties for Group 1, and we kept a tight line into Ukiah and then back down south on Old River Road before touching 101 South to the Hamburger Ranch.
Group 2, led by David Bunch and swept by Essy Fariab, came into the Ranch with big smiles signifying that they, too, had enjoyed this brand-new tour route.
Once inside, the restaurant staff took great care of our (maybe slightly boisterous) group, and absolutely no one left hungry.
New Year’s Day is already highlighted on your calendar for next year; make a little note to yourself now to come and join us on another low-traffic, great road, fantastic camaraderie adventure!
