June 2023 President’s Message
June is finally here! Now if we can only get the weather to be consistent. The first week started us into some pretty warm temps, but into week two the temps are dropping gain. What will week three bring?
Sharon and I just attended the Martorana Winery tour, and the weather, the road conditions, and even the bicycles cooperated. Past President Ben Davoren and his lovely wife Lisa once again produced a fabulous event for our members. I had a great time catching up with long time friends as well as getting to know several folks that are new to our events (Gary and Debra Willard as well as Steve Summer and others). Be sure to check out Ben’s article further down in this newsletter.
By the time you read this we will have just had our Le Mans watch party and swap meet at our Gold Level and very long time sponsor Hi-Tec Automotive in San Rafael. Big thanks to owner Deven Wailes, sales manager Greg Maissen, and the rest of our friends at Hi-Tec.
Porsche Parade comes back to California this month during the week of June 18-24. Twenty-Six Redwood Region members are attending along with almost 200 other Zone 7 folks. Past President Craig Steele has put together a fun route on Ride with GPS to Palm Springs. He has included it in an email recently sent to Redwood folks that are registered. It contains some great roads, many not to be missed. I encourage attendees to try some or all these on your journey to Parade. Thank you, Craig!
Last month, after finishing my President’s message, I attended my seventh Targa California event. It was, as always, an incredible three days of backroads twisties and amazing scenery. I once again took my trusty steed, Bruno. Newly painted, with new door and window rubber, a new dash top, headliner and windshield he ran beautifully. Many years ago I removed all of his A/C components to save 60+ lbs of weight.
This year’s event started in Palm Desert, so I had a preview of the landscape and the weather for this year’s Parade location. I wish that I ran as well in the heat as Bruno.
I believe he’s smiling in the picture below. Don’t be concerned about the new paint job, the stickers on the hood are magnetic.

Meetings of the Redwood Region Board occur on the last Tuesday of every month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at
(NOTE: this is a location change as of March 2024).
Any PCA member is welcome. Please try to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to place food orders so that meeting can start promptly at 7 p.m. You are responsible for buying your own drinks, but dinner is on the club!
