July 2023 President’s Message

We’re into the first week of July as I write this. Sharon and I, along with 28 other Redwood members, attended Porsche Parade 2023 in the lovely, very warm town of La Quinta, California. La Quinta is just South of Palm Springs. Parade lasts for 7 full days and has a never-ending list of activities, both competitive and not. We attended two tours, three banquets, autocross, concours, and the Region Presidents reception. We also did two volunteer stints a piece and attended the volunteer party.

The host hotel, the La Quinta Resort and Club, built in 1926, is of a sprawling spanish style with lovely tile roofs and white plaster walls. The vast majority of rooms are in two to four unit casitas spaced throughout the grounds. Each group of casitas surrounds their own swimming pool. It was a magical place filled lots and lots of PCA members and plenty of chatter about the cars we love best. Over 1900 people attended this year’s Parade. If you get a chance to go to one of these, don’t miss out. A great time was had by all.

And now, back to our Region… Be sure to look at Upcoming Events above this article for all the great things we have going on over the next few months. By the time you read this we will already have had our annual Porsches on the Plaza, and likely the Mid-Week Spring Lake run and picnic. I am more excited than usual about Porsches on the Plaza this year because I get to bring my newly painted SC, Bruno. He is excited too, but not making much noise about it. I’ll get him spotless tomorrow and do final cleaning on the Sonoma Square after assisting Past President Kurt Fischer in getting the rest of the attendee’s cars perfectly placed in front of City Hall.

I know September still seems like a way off, but I want to stir up some excitement for a new event our Region will be doing this year. Relatively new member Karen Sherman has been working with the Transcendence Theater Group to put together a wonderful evening of great fun, social interaction and incredible performances for our members. She has arranged for preferred parking, reserved picnic tables, and premium show seating specifically for our attendees. This year’s performance will be at Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen.
